The University of Kashmir, informally known as Kashmir University, is a collegiate public state university located on the western side of Dal Lake in the city of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir which was established in 1948. It is the oldest and largest university in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs in a variety of disciplines, including arts, sciences, engineering, technology, medicine, law, education, and management.

The university has a sprawling campus spread over 1,000 acres. The campus is home to a number of academic buildings, libraries, laboratories, sports facilities, and hostels. The university also has a number of affiliated colleges located across the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

The University of Kashmir is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Federation of the Universities of the Commonwealth of Nations. The university has been ranked among the top 100 universities in India by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
